Sudhir Jambhekar
(Director)

Sudhir Jambhekar is the Senior Design Director of ArchWert. Before joining ArchWert, Sudhir was a Senior Partner at FXFOWLE. He is an architect and urban designer with nearly 50 years of global experience on a wide variety of project types and scales. Sudhir’s passion for design, art, and intellectual exchange with the next generation contributes a valued diversity to the design dialogue. Sudhir approaches design as a perceptive search for meaning and usefulness, narrowing the infinite possibilities for a project to an idea that balances the forces at work in each. His approach is rooted in the belief that all elements are part of the larger whole, and each element of the built environment is not only worthy of, but requires, design excellence.

Sudhir’s projects have won several major design awards, including the International Design Awards, Gold Award and as a finalist at the World Architecture Festival for the Museum of the Built Environment; The Chicago Athenaeum European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies for the KAFD Mosque; several design awards from Architectural Review for the master plan for Nakheel in Dubai; and the AIA New York Chapter Design Award for the Queens Museum of Art competition entry and the Perth Amboy High School competition entry. Other awards include a Design Award from AIA New Jersey for the Walter Rand Transportation Center Expansion and an Award of Merit from AIA New York State for the Jamaica Transportation Center.

The Society of American Registered Architects granted design awards to the Queens Museum of Art competition entry, Hudson Bergen Light Rail Transit System, Hoboken Light Rail Station, and Williamsburg Community Center competition entry. In addition, his designs for the Midtown East Development Plan and the Washington, DC Metro Station Canopy Program competition were honored with awards from the Boston Society of Architects.

Many of these and other projects have been published in the leading design publications, including World Architecture News, Metropolis, Perspective, CityScape Magazine, Oculus (journal of AIA New York), Architectural Record, Architecture, and Competitions. The Korean publication Concept featured the Queens Museum of Art competition, and AW featured five of Sudhir’s projects in a special issue. His work was featured in Indian Architect and Builder, and his article “Beyond Buildings” was published in Architecture, Time, Space & People Magazine. In 2014, his biography, He Vishwache Angan, received an Award for Excellence in Book Production from The Federation of Indian Publishers.

Sudhir has lectured and served on design awards juries at several AIA chapters, the Indian Institute of Architects in Bangalore, The Korean Institute of Architectural National Convention, and the Urban Design Research Institute in Bombay. Sudhir’s extensive interest in 16th to 19th century Indian painting, as well as contemporary art, furniture, product design, music, and history further enhance his contribution to design.

He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Bombay and a Master of Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University. He is a registered architect in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Council of Architecture in India, the Society of Registered Architects, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Urban Design and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
